KEEP CLEAN - SELL OR BUY POLLUTION CREDITS
Excess nitrogen (N) and/or phosphorus (P) in waterways is a critical problem in the United States and around the world. Nutrient pollution comes from a variety of sources, including agricultural and urban runoff, sewage and waste management, and atmospheric deposition from fossil fuel combustion. Excess nutrients cause over growth of algae, leading to harmful algal blooms, hypoxia, drinking water contamination, and resulting productivity and economic losses. Effects can be seen across the Nation, from groundwater contamination, to freshwater streams and lakes, through rivers, to impacts on estuaries and ocean hypoxic zones.
